2011 UNICEF Family Festival Sunday

Oct 19 2011

Families dressed in costume are invited to our annual UNICEF Family Festival from 10am – 4pm on Sat. Oct. 22nd and Sun. Oct. 23rd.

Games and crafts for kids will include treasure hunting and button making. Tattoos, beanbag tosses, entertainment and more will be available for families to enjoy. All of this added onto the hayrides, corn maze and of course pumpkin picking makes for a fun adventure – all while benefiting the UNICEF organization.

This year marks the 26th Anniversary of the Jones family selling pumpkins at their Pumpkinseed Hill farm at 120 Beardsley Road. Guests will join the farmers in celebrating Nautical Connecticut - pirates, sailers, sea food, Mystic, submarines, and more!

This year also marks the 61st anniversary of UNICEF doing their trick-or-treat program. Every pumpkin season, the Joneses have hosted their UNICEF festival for kids having donatedover $100,000 to the program over the years.

Entertainment will take place on the Captain Kidd Dancing Deck stage throughout the weekend. Both days will feature fun farm kid-friendly entertainment. Center Stage Theater in Shelton will again headline the entertainment with a performance at 2pm on Saturday. Magician Bryan Lizotte returns this year to take to the stage on Sunday at 11:30am. Throughout both days Story Time will take place on the stage with nautical tales being read to the kids.

We shall reveal a brand-new kid-friendly hay maze and our farmers from the Harvest Kitchen cooking studio will be doing cooking demos (clam chowder anyone?) throughout both days.

Don’t forget the pumpkins. The farm grows over 50 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds on their farm. The Joneses are happy to report that all their pumpkins are grown right on the property and they have a big beautiful supply for everyone. Take a hayride out to pick one out of the fields or pick your beauty from the main sales yard. Select some great squash varieties for cooking your autumn meals out of the Jones Family Farms Squash Ship filled with squash such as; buttercup, ambercup, delicatta, acorn and more.
