Frequently
Asked Questions
Pumpkin Season 2007
What
activities do you have on the farm for pumpkin season?
The farm’s theme for 2007 is “The Jones Country
Fair,” where we will celebrate the festivities and educational
activities people would enjoy at an old-fashioned county fair.
We have dozens of pumpkin and squash varieties for people
to select from. We have many adorable photo opportunities
throughout the farm. We have hayrides ($1.00 per person) and
a corn maze ($1.75 per person, open only on weekends). We
have pigs, turkeys and chickens in the farmyard. We have children’s
music playing near a small “stage” area where
children like to dance. The last weekend of October is our
UNICEF Children’s Festival – where visitors purchase
activity tickets for children to participate in fun games
and activities. These proceeds are donated to UNICEF.
Do
you offer school tours at the farm?
Yes, we do, but we are already fully booked for the 2007 season.
Can
I bring my scout group or club to the farm?
Small groups are welcome to come to the farm. No reservation
is needed. We recommend a 1:4 adult to child ratio, especially
for younger children. Each person might want to bring approximately
$10. (A small to medium pumpkin is $5-$6, a hayride is $1,
a bag of apples is $6. On weekends: corn maze is $1.75, cookies
are $1.50, and a pint of cider is $2.)
May
I celebrate my child’s birthday here?
We do not have an organized birthday party program. However,
children are always welcome in small groups to participate
in ongoing farm activities. They must be adequately supervised
by adults (we suggest 1:4 ratio). We suggest the party giver
allot $5-$6 per child for a medium pumpkin and $6 for a bag
of fresh apples for the whole group. Hayrides are $1 per person
and the corn maze, which is open only on weekends, is $1.75
per person. However, we do not allow visitors to bring the
food-and-gifts part of their party to the farm.
Where may I set up my picnic/tailgate?
We do not maintain a picnic area. Because we have limited
yard and parking lot space, picnicking is discouraged. Weekend
visitors might want to drive 3 miles to Indian
Well State Park and use their picnic facilities. Weekday
visitors may use the weekend parking field, but must carry
out their own trash, since we do not have the facilities to
store excess trash and we do not want the yellow jacket population
to build up.
Can
I bring my pet to the farm?
NO! We are sorry but pets are not welcome
during pumpkin season! Please leave your pets at home. Pumpkins
and squash are food crops and therefore we cannot have any
pets in the fields or barnyard area. We appreciate your cooperation.
Do
you sell food on the farm?
Fresh farm apples are available every day. On weekends, pasteurized
cider and fresh-baked cookies are available in the food area.
What
is the price of the pumpkins?
Prices are decided by size. There are labeled pumpkins throughout
the barnyard to give you an idea of how much the different
size pumpkins cost.
What
do the hayrides cost?
The cost of the tractor hayride is $1.
When
is the corn maze open?
The corn maze is open only on weekends and on the Columbus
Day holiday. It is closed on the weekdays. It is geared for
families and usually lasts about 10-20 minutes. It costs $1.75
per person (2 years old and younger are free). For everyone's
safety, children under 16 years must be accompanied by an
adult.
What
should I wear when visiting the farm?
Always wear sturdy shoes. We also recommend that you bring
layers of clothes because at certain parts of the day it can
get very breezy on Pumpkinseed Hill.
Where
is the closest restaurant for a quick family meal?
Many restaurants are located on Route 111, in Monroe; including
McGowan’s Pizzaland, Dairy Queen, Home Plate Deli, and
Bill’s Drive Inn. There is a handout available at the
Cashier’s Hut.
Will
you donate pumpkins to a worthy cause?
If we have an unusually good supply of pumpkins, we consider
donations to nonprofits, especially in our community. A form
is available for requests – obtain one at Cashier’s
Hut. Donations are not possible until after October 22nd.
