Stories in Stone Hike

Mar 18 2010

Stone walls, an important link to our agricultural past, are one of the iconic features of the New England landscape. Join us for a tour of the past as we discover the stories our walls have to tell about who built them and why. Learn how our land has changed over the last several hundred years as we hike through the fields of Jones Family Farms' historic Homestead farm.

"Scattered throughout New England there are thousands of stone walls crisscrossing woods and fields as if they had been there forever. Each one has a story to tell, a story of farmers and oxen and hard, muddy work. And every stone in every wall also has a story to tell, an older story of the land itself, of mountains and glaciers, of soils and seas."
