No Place Like Home Class Cancelled - Deer Isle, ME

Saturday, April 18
12:00 pm to 3:00 pm

To ensure the safety of our staff and farm guests, we have canceled our Spring Series. Wishing everyone well during these uncertain times.

Deer Isle, ME will inspire our April 18th menu and discussion:

Deer Isle has been a favorite vacation destination of the farming Jones family for three generations, since the early 1900s.  A small island for rejuvenation, it has also provided inspiration from the lives of some of its passionate year-round residents: Helen and Scott Nearing, great grandparents of the Back to the Land movement and Elliot Coleman, an original apostle of the organic gardening and farming movement.

Menu to highlight Creamy Clam Chowder; Smoked Salmon Fish Cakes; Double-Good Jones Blueberry Pie

No Place Like Home

Six New England Places of Food Distinction

Our 2020 Spring Series will emphasize the simple, honest cooking of New England with recipes inspired by the wealth of superb indigenous ingredients so abundant in our unique agricultural area. As well as learning about the special character of each New England locality, tips for creating a thrifty, sustainable, and seasonal kitchen that enables you to easily make delicious and wholesome meals will be provided.

Our limited number of cooking classes is snuggled in between our busy farm harvest seasons. Each class is unique and especially developed for its scheduled day so we can highlight the regional, farm food ingredients of the season. Our classes are taught using a combination of cooking demonstration and hands-on preparation by the class participants. Jean Jones, Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist, will also discuss the cultural and nutritional aspects of the foods we are studying. We conclude each class by dining at our ample farm table, enjoying a specially selected glass of Jones wine. Students leave with copies of our simple, flavorful recipes and other relevant information.

This class is full, registration is closed.
