Farm Hike: Life of a Tree, Life of a Tree Farmer

Sunday, April 29, 2018 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

We have filled the capacity for our hike on April 29th, but thank you for your interest in joining us!

On Arbor Day weekend, join us for an informative farm hike celebrating the life of trees and Philip J. Jones, a life-long tree steward. As the 4th generation Jones Farmer, Philip planted the Farm’s first Christmas trees, some legacies of which now stand as lumber in the Farm’s recently erected pavilion.

Jones Family Farms is well known for its 200 acres of Christmas tree farm, but few people have had the opportunity to learn firsthand how these trees grow from small seedlings to the beautiful Christmas trees families harvest during the holidays. Explore the Farm’s scenic tree fields and discover how they are managed during this hike guided by a Farm manager and arborist. Come prepared with weather-appropriate clothing, boots, water bottle, and plenty of questions!

The talk and the terrain are best suited for adults and children 12 years of age or older. This 1.5 hour moderate hike will begin at 11 am at the Pavilion by the Winery Tasting Room, located at 606 Walnut Tree Hill Road in Shelton, CT on Sunday, April 29th. Pre-registration is required.

Location:

Be Good to the Land and the Land will be Good to You.

Philip James JONES, FARM FOUNDER, 1821-1912
