Farm Hospitality Work
Objective
- To offer college students a hands-on work opportunity to learn about guest services, hospitality, and sustainable agriculture on a modern farm.
Major Responsibilities
- Harvest supervisor for strawberry and blueberry crops
- Harvest-Your-Own operations: daily setup/cleanup, cashier, parking guide, etc
- Farm Greeter & Educator
- Agricultural duties: weeding, harvesting, etc
- Other farm maintenance tasks, such as: cleaning, painting, produce box folding, farm kitchen projects (post-harvest handling and fruit preservation)
Qualifications
- Team player, positive attitude, outgoing personality
- Strong communication skills
- Good physical health: comfortable standing for 8 hours, able to lift 50 lbs, and to perform demanding work at a fast farm pace
- Able to work in all weather conditions (including extreme heat and rain)
- Sincere interest in learning about sustainable agriculture and sharing with farm guests
Time Commitments
- The position will require being available to work weekends and Summer holidays (i.e. July 4th)
- Strawberry season: June
- Blueberry season: July - August
- Work days can start as early as 7:30am and can finish as late as 6:30pm; typical shift is 7-8 hours
- Average hours per week is around 25-30 hours, with more opportunities during our peak harvest weeks (in June)
Educational Experiences
- Strawberry Season and Farm orientation before start of harvest season (late May)
- Blueberry Season training in early July
- On-the-job instruction on agricultural techniques and direct marketing/customer service
Compensation Notes
- Pay is at an hourly rate and payroll is on a bi-weekly basis
- Compensation relates to the amount of work and dedication to the completion of summer farm work
- Successful returning staff will have experienced job status and can be compensated as such
- We have successfully worked with students to receive internship credits, if interested/applicable
- Housing/Transportation is not provided
