Everything you want to know about a Jones tree

Are reservations required?

Reservations are required 3 days of the Thanksgiving weekend and the first weekend in December. They are available and encouraged for all other weekends and even some of our busy weekdays, but it is optional those days.

How much do the trees cost this year?

It take a lot of years and efforts to grow our trees. Please visit Tree Prices for more details.

How big are the trees?

In our harvest-your-own tree fields, there is a wonderful selection of trees, including 9-10 foot trees during the early season. There are very limited 11-12 foot trees in the beginning of the season - a few here and there throughout the farm. There is no specific area of the farm to recommend to find them. Be prepared to walk a distance and over uneven terrain. Taller trees are usually in areas that are off the beaten path and more difficult to reach, and therefore, require more effort to get back to a baler station. Come with help and be prepared to drag trees uphill. Finding a tall tree in the tree fields involves a combination of time, effort, luck, and being open to a variety of trees and tree shapes.

In our Barnyard Village, we do sell fresh-cut trees that range in size from 2 feet tall to 12 feet tall that are grown on one of our other farm locations. From these farm areas, we only cut a certain amount of tall trees each year to ensure we have enough for the following year.

We strongly recommend that you measure your ceiling height before your farm visit. Out in the fields, trees appear smaller.

Also, please be advised that the very tall trees are extremely heavy, requiring a substantial vehicle to transport them home and a special tree stand.

What types of trees do you have?

We have Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir, Blue Spruce, Douglas Fir, and White Pine. All of these varieties have excellent needle retention if they are properly cared for after being cut down. Be sure to keep your tree away from sources of heat, cut an inch from the trunk right before placing tree in stand, and water tree daily. For more information, please visit our tree varieties.

Where is it best to find and cut Fraser fir trees?

Fraser fir trees are very beautiful, but in our part of the country they grow more slowly. Those who like Frasers should also visit our Balsam tree fields. Balsams are a similar looking trees and have a great aroma; plus in some of our Balsam fields we have Canaan firs, which have characteristics of both Frasers and Balsams.

We grow many of our Frasers at our Merry Berry Valley Farm. On the peak weekends, make reservations for Merry Berry Valley Farm; on weekdays or weekends when Merry Berry Valley Farm is not open, go to the Barnyard Village and ask our greeter.

Is there a tree tram to pick up our tree after we cut it down?

Assuming the weather is good and our farm roads are in dry condition, we offer a limited tree tram service. However, guests will always need to bring their tree to a pick up location or baling station for it to get picked up by the tree tram. Sometimes it is closer and faster for the guests to bring the tree directly to the baling station. Guests should bring a tarp to help them carry their tree. In our harvest-your-own areas, staff is not available to get trees from the tree fields. Those need more assistance may want to consider getting a pre-cut tree in the Barnyard Village.

Can my group come gather at your farm?

We provide parking areas for your vehicles – however, space is limited and therefore we do not have the ability to provide room for tailgate parties. We love to see guests standing at their tailgates, sipping some hot cocoa from a thermos, after their hikes in the fields; however, due to safety considerations, tents, chairs, picnic blankets, cooking of any kind, ball playing, and the like are not allowed in our parking lots. On the peak weekends (3-day Thanksgiving weekend and the first weekend in December) cars not getting a tree pay an extra vehicle fee on the family's tree reservations. This helps keep our parking dedicated for tree customers with more land dedicated to crops and wildlife throughout the year. Please see our complete policy on tailgating and parking lot refreshments

Can I bring a picnic to the farm?

We understand after harvesting a tree you need to nourish yourselves with sandwiches and healthy snacks at your car. Please note, there is no outside food permitted in the Barnyard Village Courtyard. Our Harvest Kitchen creates farm-made cookies from scratch and serves them along with mulled cider, cold cider and coffee. Also, there is no alcohol allowed outside of the winery, including bottles of Jones wines, now that we are selling cups of mulled wine outside of the winery.

Can I bring my dog to the farm?

Yes, well-behaved dogs are allowed during tree season as long as it is on a leash at all times and remains on the paths in the Christmas tree woods. No pet dogs are allowed in the winery, gift shop or wreath barn.  We request you bring a plastic bag to clean up after your dog, placing it into trash cans. Dogs must be able to be in busy areas with many people and other dogs. Some dogs might prefer some quiet time at home!

Do you carry the trees to our car and tie it on?

We do offer that service when we can, especially for pre-cut trees in our Barnyard Village. It might take some time on the busy weekends - we do our best to help many people! In the harvest your own fields, we have some staff available to help with tree tying. We do provide twine so that you can tie it to your car if our crew is unavailable. See our video of how to tie a tree the "Jones Way."

Do you deliver trees?

No, we do not deliver trees. However, in our barnyard at the main farm, we do sell fresh-cut trees and we have staff that can help you select the tree, carry it to your car, and tie it to your car if you wish. In the barnyard, we have an assortment of small trees that are light and manageable.

Do you take credit cards?

Yes, we do, including Apple Pay.

Does Santa visit your farm?

We’ve worked it out with the elves at the North Pole that Santa will visit us for our annual visit from Santa on the weekend before Christmas! Weather permitting Santa usually visits those days from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; Santa takes a quick break at 1 pm.

Is the farm handicap accessible?

In the Barnyard Village parking lot, there are handicap-accessible parking spaces. Most wheelchairs are able are able to handle the barnyard terrain if the weather conditions are good, but please be advised it is unpaved with uneven areas.

As we reflect on our agricultural adventures and experiences, I find it exciting to realize that our many environmental practices work in symbiosis with the positive ecological impacts and the economic success of our farm.

I believe this is a critical message for our nation to embrace.
